ca. 1813
The Concord wagon was a very light modification of the New England pleasure wagon developed by Lewis Downing of Concord, New Hampshire following his settlement there in 1813. These wagons were very popular uo to the end of the wagon age. They often were very simple, sported the famous Concord gear with its smoother ride and had a relatively shallow body.
The Concord was a modification of the pleasure wagon which also included the buggy, the road wagon, and the spring wagon. Another carriage made by Lewis Downing was the popular Concord coach which was used by Wells Fargo Bank.
This wagon was acquired in September 1976 through a private sale handled by Park Central Antiques of Dallas, Texas. The wagon had to be completely restored, which included painting, upholstery, and replacing some broken pieces. The lamps were also installed to add a little character to wagon.
